The Forgotten Sanxia River
When it comes to the history and culture of Sanxia, the contents always revolve around Sanxia River., which is not only the origin of culture but also the life of Sanxia. Sanxia River and Dahan River converge, and the confluence forms the main basin of four areas, including Tucheng, Shulin, Sanxia and Ganyuan. During the days when road traffic was underdeveloped, all commercial ships carrying staple merchandise depended on this river for transportation. Approximately 30-40% of water supplied by Banxin Water Plant came from Sanxia River, which was also the source of daily drinking water for the inhabitants. However, most of the garbage in the river came from domestic life, local tourists and upstream. Although trash fees have been collected with the bags, tourists and inhabitants have not developed such concept and actions, so numerous trashes are disposed causally into the river.
River Clean-up Operation
We saw that the history and culture of Sanxia River (Creek), the river that cultivated Sanxia, was being forgotten gradually, and it had even become a place where tourists and inhabitants throw their trash. In 2010, we initiated the River Clean-up Operation in Sanxia. The original purpose was to try to bring back teenagers of Sanxia and recover their identification and care toward the land. We hoped to arouse the care that local youths had for their land. Though we grew up on this land, it was so unfamiliar to us, which gave rise to our guilt. Could we take some time to go back to our hometown and do something for the land? Thus, on the second Sunday of every month, we gather around in the courtyard of KOUJI Restaurant with community partners to cohere the strength for guarding the environment of our hometown.

Welcome Taipei Kang Chiao Geography Olympiad Training Course to organize “2019 Winter Holiday Education Travel Activity" to lead children to study in the Sanxia, to know local traditional industries and shokunins through “Shokunin Tour”. Finally, they also participated in the "River Clean-up Operation" to protect the environment and natural resources.
