“CAN Sanxia” – Vision of Huashan Market - Taiwan community design

A brand has been born based on the regional culture of Sanxia, for everyone to truly feel the sincere and simple life of the people in Sanxia.


CAN Culture, Art & Nature has been around Sanxia for a decade. During these years, we have discovered shokunins from over 20 industries, as well as tried to share with everyone the Sanxia we see through different methods, including the “Shokunin Concerto” exhibition held a few years ago, the “Shokunin Map” that combined small trips, and the “Shoku School”, which is a culture rooting project promoted by bring shokunins into campus.

It was until the “Sanxia & Yingge Placemaking Exhibition” last year when we deeply felt that the cultural energy of Sanxia exceeded the scope we were familiar with. However, the abundant inspiration has always lacked a sort of energy that allows the hidden charisma of Sanxia to be seen by the public. A brand has been born based on the regional culture of Sanxia this year, i.e. “CAN Sanxia”. The brand not only brings the people into Sanxia, but also brings Sanxia cultures across obstacles for everyone to truly feel the sincere and simple life of the people in Sanxia.

CAN Culture, Art & Nature is working with shokunins hand in hand this time to hold a craft market in Huashan 1914 Creative Park for the shokunins to promote their craft brands so that their skills for making a living can be seen by more people.

After the prototype was constructed for the regional brand, we received an invitation from the Taiwan Culture and Creativity Development Foundation to plan a brand market based on the themes of arts and crafts, handmade products, and foods and beverages in Sanxia to promote the traditional shokunin brands and experience tours. By using the title “CAN Sanxia”, we invited local art and craft shokunins and handmade brands to join us in a market event that will be held at Huashan Square at the end of January of 2019. It is hope that, through the crowds of Huashan 1914 Creative Park, we can promote and push effectively the craft cultures and charisma of village life in Sanxia to create deeper connections between the greater Taipei Area, foreign and domestic tourists and Sanxia, so that the regional cultural consumption can be driven every time tourists visit Sanxia for the traditional  crafts to have new opportunities to be extended.


“Indigo dyeing”, the most representative craft in Sanxia, is used as the theme for elaborating the key vision. Illustrations depicting the mountains, rivers and arch bridges of Sanxia are applied to show the scene of the marketplace in Sanxia.

Marketing activity integration and media promotion are the important boosts for conveying effectively the raw materials and the highlights of exhibits and performances of the principle of Sanxia’s regional culture regeneration. Through this grand event based on crafts, we expect to agglomerate community participation again to promote together the comeback of cultural crafts in life, as well as to drive consumption on regional culture for creating revenue and feedback for local stores.

Furthermore, the market of craft shokunin brands echoes the Sanxia culture revival and transformation model that CAN Culture, Art & Nature has been engaged in for a long time. The three-day market event will present the most sincere market culture of the people in Sanxia. Besides booths for shokunins of traditional industries, there are also booths for new craft brands. Local excellent and up and coming craft creators are also invited to join the event to conduct cross-regional and cross-generation communication for the creative energy to be more abundant, as well as to promote together the craft beauty and shokunin spirit of Sanxia for creating regional economy.
