When you come to Sanxia, you must experience DIP indigo dyeing, otherwise it would be like you’ve never been here. In the early days, Sanxia planted Chinese Rain Bells (mayflower glory berry), of which the stems and leafs could be soaked to produce indigo, the clear water of Sanxia River could be used for washing cloth, and dyed cloth could be dried by the river, so the local people could make dyed cloth. The founding concept of the Association is to preserve local resources for the culture to be passed down. A teacher at the dyeing workshop said, “Through DIY indigo dyeing, dull cloth could be full of life and become distinctive artworks.”
