Shokunin Tour – Blacksmith

The smithy can be said to be the warehouse of living tools in the community. From cooking tools used in the kitchen to farming tools used on croplands, the blacksmith is an expert in everything. But do you know all of these tools?

 




Shokunin Tour – Oil Producer

Do you know how the edible oil you consume every day is produced? After the multiple food scandals, we must learn to be responsible for the food we eat every day. To understand food safety issues, start by knowing edible oil.

 


Shokunin Tour – Baker

Besides croissants, the most indicative pastry in Sanxia, the traditional bakery also sells special cakes and pies according to different festivals and seasons. Peach-shaped longevity noodles, salty plum cake, red sticky rice cake(Ang ku Kueh), Moho Kuih cake, and split peach-shaped bread (pit-thô), have you ever eaten these?


 

Shokunin Tour – Face Threading Expert

Develop the concept of skin care, experience the traditional skin care technique, and let schoolchildren know our ancestors’ wisdom the facial skin care.

 

Shokunin Tour – Tailor

To make a perfect suit, a tailor must first learn to use the measuring utensils and make the suit in accordance with the figures to create a gentleman look with perfect ratios.



 

Shokunin Tour – Tofu Making Master

HIDEKAWA uses 100% domestic non-GMO soybeans, and the concentration of the soy milk it makes is 3-4 folds higher than other brands. Have you ever heard of “brined tofu”? Do you know what brine is?


Shokunin Tour – Metalsmith

By using flames and pounding, the metalsmith applies expert skills to shape cold metal into warm metalwork pieces.


※The route of the Shokunin Tour will be adjusted according to the working condition of the masters on that day; there are basically four stops.

※Walking to sites is required throughout the outdoor tour. Please prepare drinking water and sunscreen; prepare rain gear on a rainy day.



  

Lunch – Creative Natural Cuisines

KOUJI selects ingredients carefully as it chooses to treat both the body and the land with more friendliness. With the spirit of shokunin, KOUJI conveys delicious flavors of the land and local dietary cultures.

 

 ※Please inform in advance if you are allergic to soybean products, a vegetarian, or cannot eat spicy food. (Only lacto-ovo dishes are provided for vegetarians)

※Group dining is charged for persons over 7 years old; young children under 6 years old accounts for one person if dining is required.

※Additional ordering service is not provided as the ingredients must be prepared in advance.




Shokunin Experience – DIY

After the schoolchildren have a preliminary understanding of local craft cultures by visiting Sanxia shokunins in the morning, they will learn crafts in DIY courses in the afternoon. Through the activities, the children can inherit the beauty of traditional craft, experience shokunin craft culture, and learn the ethos of “isshokenmei (guarding something that matters with one’s own life)”.

Indigo dyeing, metalworking, engraving and enameling are provided for experiencing diversifies craft creation.

 

Indigo Dyeing

※Everyone can take home with them a 60X60cm indigo-dyed handkerchief. 



Metalworking

※Everyone can take home with them a 10cm fine copper spoon.

※This course requires working with professional tools, children less than 12 years old must be accompanied by adults.


Engraving

※Everyone can take home with them a square Fengtian stone seal.

※This course requires working with professional tools, children less than 12 years old must be accompanied by adults.

 

Enameling

※Everyone can take home with them an enamel accessory.

※This course requires working with professional tools, children less than 12 years old must be accompanied by adults. 

 

Notes:

1. This package tour is suitable for families with children.

2. Parents accompanying children less than 6 years old are free of charge, but will be accounted as one person for dining and experiencing.

3. Tour auditing, meal sharing, additional orders and additional ingredients are not provided.

4. The tour adopts a reservation system; 10 persons form a group, and the upper limit is 20 persons. (The upper limits for the metalworking tour and the engraving tour are 15 persons and 10 persons, respectively)

5. Walking to sites is required throughout the outdoor tour. Please prepare drinking water and sunscreen; prepare rain gear on a rainy day.

6. For the indigo dyeing tour, please wear dark colored clothes to prevent from dirtying the clothes.

7. Part of the experiencing courses require working with professional tools, so children less than 12 years old must be accompanied by adults.
