The Sanxia and Yingge colony formed at the river convergence further gave rise to the gathering of life craft shokunins, intertwining into the distinctive scenery of life in Sanxia and Yingge.
The Great Sanxia and Yingge Region is an old town area that emerged because of river convergence.
Sanxia was abounded in tea and mayflower gloryberry, while Yingge was rich in pottery clay; the “tea, dyeing and pottery” industries allowed the Sanxia and Yingge region to become the economic capital in northern Taiwan in the past. Energy of private industries was built together, and numerous shokunins with exquisite skills were developed. However, due to issues such as the fall of river transportation and the outflow of youth population, the towns that were once full of creative power faced the withering of industries, and the skills of shokunins were lost.
“Sanxia & Yingge Placemaking” re-gathered the three major local cultural cores, i.e. tea, dyeing and pottery; invited local youths to participate, gathered energy of industrial cultures, and introduced cross-field design to hold a cross-region feast that connects the local cultures and innovation of Sanxia and Yingge. It is hoped that, through this event, local industries can be elevated for overturning the industrial development of the towns.
The integrated project gathers ten local craft industries, including tea, dyeing and pottery, to reinterpret the cultural features and value of Sanxia and Yingge through region crossing and energy transformation.
This feast invites Sanxia’s and Yingge’s craft shokunins, cross-field creators and everyone who sets foot on this land to feel the concrete expression of the aesthetics of living in craft industries. Rediscover the towns; experience the cultures that are rich in cultural connotation and close to life.
We had a tea ceremony in the woods that day!
We moved the high quality tea, dyeing and pottery of Sanxia and Yingge into the woods and, under the guidance of a tea expert, planned a wonderful feast of tea, dyeing and pottery. The tea ceremony used the works of pottery master Zhi-Hao Li. Taking into account the characteristics of Sanxia tea, three tea wares were used to deduce the flavor of Sanxia tea with different brewing methods. Combined with the work of indigo dyeing craftsmen and the honey flavored black tea of Sanxia, a tea ceremony rich in the distinctive flavors of Sanxia and Yingge was created.
