With the burning sunlight upon noon and our faces red as lobsters due to the sun, seeing the old-school ice store in the alley is like seeing a life-saver. Once we walked into the store, we heard Aunt BAO-YU’s greeting voice with hospitality. Servings of handmade thick rice noodles were scooped into the bowls, added with translucent shaved ice, and drizzled with brown sugar water, and then, old-school condiments were added in the end. Once you tried it, it brought back your nostalgic sense of the taste of childhood.

Whoever has been to Senmu shall know, and it is hard not to be attracted by the black-white photos on the wall. Each picture tells a story of Sanxia. You can see the time frozen, a preserved living condition, on the pictures. Upon seeing out sights lingered on the photos, Aunt BAO-YU passionately shared with us the stories behind such photos.

As such, we learned that there used to be sumo competition in Sanxia in front of the temple, the Sanxia River used to be clear that people paddled around, and that there is dragon boat competition at the Sanxia River during Dragon Boat Festival. We accidentally saw old photos of our office and Ai Lin Hospital, and many photos that carry various stories. This is not just a store for ice as seen, but also a container that is filled with stories of Sanxia, and Aunt BAO-YU is just like the storyteller here!
